Dapper Gentlemen | Shawn + Steven
These dapper gents came to Moana Events in need of a wedding designer with just two weeks before the big day! Though the deadline was initially concerning, the Moana Events team fell in love with the couple and knew that they would do everything in their power to give them the wedding of their dreams.
Shawn and Steven originally found love when they met at a local bar in Los Angeles. They had both come to LA to attend a business conference. Shawn had recently finished his MBA at UCLA and Steven was just beginning his at NYU. At the bar, Shawn approached Steven and started up a conversation about the convention. About a year later, Steven convinced Shawn to join him on a business trip to Arizona. However, when Shawn arrived at the airport Steven surprised him with a vacation to Hawaii under the guise of an early birthday gift and proposed.
Shawn and Steven thrive off of travel, which is why they originally decided to have a destination wedding and over the course of their planning their love for travel also spread into their event design. Upon arrival to their hotel each guest was given a custom canvas zipper clutch that included memos about the wedding schedule, things to do in the area, a soft drink, and some local favorite snacks. Their wedding was hosted at the beautiful Turtle Bay Resort. All printed materials for this couple, including save-the-dates, invitations, and menus incorporated their signature “S & S” logo featuring a vintage propeller plane. For the ceremony Shawn and Steven met under a beautiful white driftwood archway custom designed by Moana Events to symbolize their love for adventure and the sea. The arch also featured elegant white garden florals and greenery, beautifully framing the couple and Hawaiian minister. The wedding remained true to Hawaiian style, and when Shawn and Steven exchanged rings they also exchanged groom leis.
Travel details were used at the reception as well; guests found their table based on the name of a city rather than a number. Dove grey linens topped the table rounds and simplistic boxes of white flowers and votives acted as decor. Over the wedding party table, a dining canopy hung with vintage lanterns. The “S & S” monogram could be found again on the cake and as a decal on the dance floor where it added a more personal touch to Shawn and Steven’s wedding day. Instead of having the typically sentimental slow first dance, the couple decided to show off their theatrical side, by including kicks, dips and spins! On stage, a live band helped keep the upbeat tune of the evening going and guests danced the night away under white paper lanterns and the stars of a warm Hawaiian night.
